May 4th | Giving As An Investment

Man in a Brinks truck throws money on a city street. Stacks of cash inside, dollars floating outside. Urgent and chaotic scene.
The real question is not how much we give, but how we give. God is not after our money — He is after our hearts. He delights in the cheerful giver whose generosity flows from love, faith, and joyful abandon.

“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

— 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 (NIV)

“One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

— Proverbs 11:24-25 (NIV)

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

— Luke 6:38 (NIV)

Reflection

Giving is never a loss — it is an investment that unlocks God’s economy. In 2 Corinthians 9:6, the Apostle Paul pulls us into the ancient rhythm of the soil: sparing seeds produce sparing harvests, but generous sowing yields abundant returns.

Every act of generosity is a seed dropped into God’s fertile ground. What we release in faith, God multiplies with grace.

This principle runs like a golden thread through Scripture. Proverbs 11:24-25 confronts us with a startling paradox: the one who gives freely gains even more, while the one who clings tightly drifts toward poverty.

Generosity is refreshing water — the more we pour out to others, the more God causes fresh streams to flow back into our own lives.

Jesus then raises the promise to breathtaking heights in Luke 6:38: when we give, God doesn’t return a stingy cup — He gives a good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, poured into our laps.

These verses together dismantle every fear that keeps us from giving. They declare that biblical generosity is not depletion; it is multiplication. It is not religious duty but joyful participation in the very nature of God, who “did not spare His own Son” for us (Romans 8:32).

When we give cheerfully — of our money, time, talents, forgiveness, or encouragement — we step into the divine pattern of grace. We reflect the heart of Christ, who gave everything, trusting the Father to provide.

The real question is not how much we give, but how we give. God is not after our money — He is after our hearts. He delights in the cheerful giver whose generosity flows from love, faith, and joyful abandon.

The Attitude of Giving

Paul makes it clear: our offering must be decided in the heart, not given reluctantly or under pressure. God loves the giver who finds delight in giving.

Application for Today

- Search your heart: Is your giving marked by joy or hesitation?

- Sow something generous today — financially, relationally, or spiritually.

- Trust the promise: the same God who receives your gift will supply every need and multiply every seed.

Know that every seed you sow is safely held in the hands of a generous God. 🌱
