February 2nd | God's Love Is The One Possession That Never Fails

Today, I'm focusing solely on Psalm 107, a beautiful psalm of thanksgiving that was likely composed for one of Israel's annual religious festivals. It repeatedly calls God's people to praise Him, especially through the refrain found in verses 8, 15, 21, and 31:
"Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind." (NIV)
This refrain echoes four times, each after describing different groups in distress—wanderers in the desert, prisoners in darkness, the sick, and sailors caught in storms—who cry out to God, and He delivers them. It reminds us that God hears every cry, sees every need, and responds with compassion.
The psalm highlights God's unfailing love ( in Hebrew—His loyal, covenant-keeping kindness) and His wonderful deeds. He knows us intimately:
- When we're lost and wandering aimlessly, searching for direction.
- When we're struggling to find purpose on our path.
- When we're hurting, desperate, or overwhelmed.
- Even when we're feeling confident, prideful, or ambitious—He still pursues us with grace.
In my own life, the things that matter most aren't the temporary ones: money, jobs, schedules, cars, homes, computers, or even acquaintances. These will all fade or fail us eventually, and we can't take them into eternity.
What truly endures are the relationships and realities we can't always see but know are real:
- The people I love and can't imagine not seeing in this life.
- God Himself—Father, Son Jesus, and Holy Spirit—present with us, although we can't physcially see Him.
- The invisible but powerful: my hopes, prayers, dreams, aspirations for the future, and cherished memories of the past, things that we cannot see or touch.
Everything else is fleeting, but God's love is the one possession that never fails. It's given freely, not because we deserve it (none of us do), but because of who He is—our Provider, Redeemer, and faithful Father.
All He asks in return is our love and devotion. He knows our needs, hears our cries, and delivers us time and again. That's why we should begin each day honoring Him, seeking Him, and learning more about His character.
As my preacher has been emphasizing lately, God deserves "every minute, every moment" of our lives. Let's respond to Psalm 107's call today: give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds—for us, for mankind, and forever.
