February 6th | The Power of Writing Down Your Dreams and Committing Them to God.

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans." (Proverbs 16:3, NIV)

Imagine opening your inbox to an email from someone like Elon Musk, Michael Jordan, or another icon you deeply admire. You wouldn't just archive it or delete it—you'd treasure it. You'd probably screenshot it, print it, frame it, or lock it away safely. Why? Because a message from someone of that stature feels rare, valuable, and worth preserving.

Now think about your own dreams, goals, and aspirations. They deserve even greater care—because they're yours, and when you bring them before God, they become sacred.

Back in 1994, as I graduated high school, I felt called to coach college basketball. I hand-wrote letters to every NCAA Division I head coach, asking for a chance to serve as a student assistant manager. With every letter I sent, my conviction grew stronger. I believed God had placed this dream in my heart. By age 21, I was living it. Those responses—polite declines that fueled my drive, and notes from coaches (five now in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame)—remain some of my most prized possessions. Not for the signatures, but because they represent a dream pursued, prayed over, and fulfilled.

There's real power in putting pen to paper. Writing clarifies our thoughts, deepens our commitment, and helps us internalize what matters most. That's why, every morning, I start my day by writing down my goals and aspirations—then praying over them. I call it the launch of "The Discipline Day." When we commit those written dreams to the Lord in prayer, that document becomes far more precious than any celebrity note. It's our heart's desire, entrusted to God.

My wife experienced this truth powerfully too. As the founding principal of a new elementary school, once the building was enclosed and rooms framed, she walked through every space—classrooms, offices, hallways—and wrote a Bible verse on the concrete floor of each space before it was covered by flooring. She prayed over each room, dedicating it to God and asking Him to bless the teachers and students who would fill it. The result? God built an exceptional school culture there. Students thrived, many teachers advanced into leadership, and His hand was evident—all tied to her written, prayed-over vision for that place. Eventually a church would be planted out of the "public school." That school served as the temporary worship center for a church plant that now is one fo the largest churces in Central Kentucky.

Scripture affirms this principle again and again. The prophet Habakkuk (writing around 608–598 BC during Judah's turbulent times) cried out to God about injustice and impending judgment. God's response? A clear instruction:

"Then the Lord replied: 'Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.'" (Habakkuk 2:2, NIV)

God wanted the vision recorded plainly—visible, permanent, shareable. Similarly, when God renewed His covenant with Israel through Moses, He commanded:

"Then the Lord said to Moses, 'Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.'" (Exodus 34:27, NIV)

The written word, especially when offered to God, carries weight and invites His partnership.

Today, take a moment to write down the desires God has placed in your heart—your plans, your dreams, your prayers for family, work, ministry, or personal growth. Then commit them to Him. As Scripture promises:

"May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed." (Psalm 20:4, NIV)

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans." (Proverbs 16:3, NIV)

Write it. Pray over it. Speak it to yourself. Trust God with it. Those words on paper aren't just notes—they're an act of faith, a declaration that your future is in His hands. And He is faithful to guide, establish, and bring to pass what aligns with His will.

What will you write down and entrust to God today?
